Not far from Wrocław, there is a very interesting place that is the part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Church Of Peace in Świdnica is a wooden evangelical church built in the XVII century. It reflects both the political and religious situation of the time in Lower Silesia. After visiting the church, we will then go for a walk around the Old City of Świdnica, taking in its picturesque townhouses and impressive cathedral of St. Stanislaw and St. Wenceslaus.
The history of Lower Silesia goes back to the German reign. There are many places with difficult pasts; one such being Walim. During the Second World War, there was a plan in place to build several secret factories in the Sowie Mountains as part of the “Riese” Project. We will visit one part of the complex. We will further explore the history of the place by descending a couple of meters underground.
From there we will go on to the Książ Castle – the third largest castle in Poland (after Malbork and Wawel). Nestled in the hilltop jutting out of the dense woodland, the castle is found in a breathtakingly scenic location. In addition to it’s impressive architecture, the castle also has an intriguing history.
The guide will lead us through the centuries and we will see the most interesting parts of the castle. We will also get to know about Lady Daisy, a former owner of the castle.
